ROSÉ ALL DAY!!

July 23, 2020 by PWM

ROTATION ROSÉ, LODI, CA.............$9.00 BTL.

Styled after a Bandol Rose’, this 100% Mourvedre Rose’ is shockingly French.  Obviously the winemaker team here either did their college dissertation of Rose’ from Provence or just knows his stuff.  This Rotation Rose is fruit-driven, with hints of cantaloupe, peach and red berries, a creamy, medium-bodied palate and a mouthwatering finish. Good till the last drop.

DOMAINE MAGELLAN ‘LE FRUIT DEFENDU’ ROSÉ, HERAULT, LANGUEDOC, FRANCE...$10.00 BTL.

6 hectares of old Cinsault vines on their beautiful sandstone sites. The vines come from field selections conducted in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape region at the start of the 1960s.  For the Rosé Fruit Défendu, the Cinsault grapes are destemmed and transferred to tanks for short soaking on the skins. We only use the free-run juices – no press juices – which are settled and fermented in stainless steel tanks. Temperature control is not too strict because an old varietal like this one would not appreciate high-tech winemaking! All the grapes are picked by hand.  On the pale side of the color spectrum, Domaine Magellan's 2017 Le Fruit Defendu Rose features fresh strawberry and raspberry overtones to the melon and peach fruit. Medium to full-bodied, it's fleshy and ripe, with bold fruit and just enough dusty-stony complexity on the dry finish.

AZULEJO ROSÉ, LISBON, PORTUGAL.............$9.00 BTL.

Such as the ‘AZULEJO’ (ceramic tiles), an ancestral element of the Portuguese decorative arts, this wine shows a beautiful pink color and predominant ripe red fruit aromas. It is medium bodied, revealing nice sensations of ripened fruit, combined with good minerality and acidity.  And at a nice 9.5% alcohol you have an extra glass.  And comes with a crewcap for your protection.

PARADIS ROSÉ, BEZIERS, PROVENCAL ROSÉ, FRANCE.....$12.00 BTL.

WAS $22!  Easily the most beautifully packages of our many Rose’ wines but it is what is in the bottle that really sets this wine apart.  Preignes le Vieux dates back to 1905 when great grandfather Robert Vic bought the estate.  Today the fifth generation is now tending the vines on 250 hectares of land surrounding the château.  The wine estate is situated at the north-west of Vias, separated from the sea by an old volcano, Roque Haute, here the vines grow in soil that is composed of basalt and volcanic ash. The grape skins and juice remain in contact for no more than 8 hours to obtain just enough fruit and colour.  Discover an expressive nose with notes of rose and ruby red grapefruit and a palate full of red fruit and refreshing minerality.  100% Grenache.

GANETA GETARIAKO TXAKOLINA ROSADO, SAN SEBASTIAN, BASQUE COUNTRY, ESPANA......$15.00 BTL.

WAS $22!  BEST PRICE ANYWHERE!  Pink, perfumed and wonderfully pure, this Rose wine made from the traditional grapes of Hondurrabi Zuri and Hondurrabi Beltza is the best liquid refresher for a hot day. Super low in alcohol and vibrant, this salmon-colored, slightly fizzy wine is locked and loaded with lime zest, strawberry, watermelon and minerally touches. This wine kicks ass and is so fun to drink and drink now!

LA PETITE PERRIERE ROSÉ OF GAMAY NOIR, LOIRE VALLEY, FRANCE........$8.00 BTL.

WAS $17.  J'adore ce vin. Cela me rappelle la Loire. Terre de jardins en France, MAIS nous avons toujours le New Jersey.  Oh, excuse me for thatI was supposed to be arriving in Paris today.  But you know how that goes.  We only were able to get 10 cases of this beautifully crafted Loire Rose’ from the Gamay grape.  “Saget la Perriere is among several estates) to have bottled a  Loire Rose that struck me as irresistible and as good as this genre gets, not to mention an excellent value. Partridge eye in color and scented with fresh red raspberry, honeysuckle, and lily-of-the-valley, this could be a Riesling given its particular aromatic enticement. Juicy and suffused with salt- and iodine-tinged ripe red berries it offers Riesling-reminiscent delicacy too, with vibrant interaction of fruit, mineral, and flowers in a long, saliva-inducing finish.” – 91 pts. – Wine Enthusiast!

RABBLE ROSÉ, PASO ROBLES, CA.................................$8.00 BTL.

BACK IN STOCK!  WAS $24!  From the winery:  These are our single varietal wines; uncorrupted and pure.  .  This 100% Syrah newly released Rosé screams watermelon, young strawberry, orange peel and stony minerality. Flavors of melon rind, hibiscus and salinity dance across the palate while the juicy acidity rounds out this lively fun-going wine.

CH. D’AQUERIA TAVEL ROSÉ, RHONE, FR.......................$18.00 (LAST CALL!)

#29 ENTHUSIAST 100 2019.  Most serious Rose’ wine lovers will agree that while the world is chock full of wonderful Rose’ there are two shining lights & they are both in France.  One is Provence (see above) which stretches from the Italian border to Marseilles and the other is a small appellation of Tavel near Avignon.

This medium-bodied, dry rosé offers intensely fresh, concentrated strawberry, raspberry and watermelon flavors. It's juicy yet invigorating and mineral. A blend of Grenache, Clairette, Cinsault and Mourvèdre, it's a structured, penetrating wine that will gain depth and complexity through 2022 and serve well in the colder months with game or poultry.  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

DESPAGNE ‘ECLAT DE CABERNET ROSÉ, BORDEAUX, FRANCE........$8.00 BTL.

A FAN FAVORITE!  Made from Cabernet Sauvignon by this producer in the Entre-deux-Mers region of Bordeaux, this cool, crisp wine is refreshingly packed with red-currant fruits. A touch of lemon zest shines a bright light through the wine.  The family-owned Despagne has been based in Saint-Émilion for over 200 years, where the family tradition of excellence continues. As a family-owned company, Despagne has made a name for itself in the large Bordeaux wine houses thanks to its innovative and extensive knowledge in both vineyards and vinification technology. Despagne offers white, red and above all high quality rosé wines. They stand out with their unique flavors that are significant to the producer and are known throughout the wide wine world. For example, Robert Parker has paid tribute to Despagne with the words "One of the most admirable operations of Bordeaux".  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

ONYX MEDITERRANEE ROSÉ, NEAR MARSEILLE, FRANCE ........$10.00 BTL.

WAS $20!  Figuière is located in La Londe-les-Maures between Marseille and Nice with vineyards that lie just a few hundred meters from the Mediterranean Sea. “There’s a five-degree difference in temperature from our vineyards to those of the interior,” says Magali, “the freshness found in our wines is very singular to the La Londe region.”

Alain Combard purchased the property in 1992 after discovering its cool coastal climate and unique schist soils. “The schist in La Londe seduced my father,” says Alain’s daughter Magali, “schist and the sea make our style.”  Méditerranée is intended as easy-to-enjoy wine with a soft profile made from a blend of Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon. A two to three-hour maceration prior to vinification brings a pale melon color to this classic southern French rosé.

Tasting Notes:

Méditerranée Rosé is intended to be light, invigorating and easy-to-enjoy. Aromas and flavors of peach, orange skin and white flowers are accented by refreshing acidity and a salty minerality thanks to the influence of the sea.  TEXTBOOK PROVENCAL ROSE!

LOS VASCOS ‘LAFITE ROTHSCHILD’ ROSÉ, COLCHAGUA, CHILE.....$10.00 BTL.

Los Vascos wines blend Lafite tradition with the unique terroir of Chile to create elegant wines that bring exceptional to the everyday. The vision of Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) to expand their estates took them to South America in 1988, becoming the first French viticultural investment in modern Chile. Since then, a comprehensive modernization and investment program has been undertaken, oriented towards the production of fine wine using and adapting the viticultural experiences of Bordeaux and other areas where Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) is present. Los Vascos’ rosé is made from grapes which are pressed immediately after harvesting. This preserves the freshness, the fruity aromas and the bright colour brought of the juice straight from the vineyard. It is best to drink this wine young to fully enjoy its lively character and finesse.  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

LES ADRETS BANDOL ROSÉ, COTE D’AZUR, FRANCE.....$20.00 BTL.

France’s (no the Worlds) Greatest Rose’ wine come from this small appellation between Marseilles & Nice.  You want some of this!!

“Les Adrets 2019 Bandol Rose continue to show why it's considered one of the best rosés in the world. Made with a hefty chunky of Mourvedre, it offers beautifully crisp and precise notes of orange blossom, crushed rock, mineral water and white flower that flow seamlessly to a medium-bodied, balanced, lively and fresh style on the palate. While this doesn't have the heft of sheer fruit of a top Tavel, it has more tension and focus, and I suspect it will put on weight with another 3-4 months in bottle. In short, it's a beautiful Bandol rosé that delivers everything you could want from a rosé. It has the juiciness and freshness to drink nicely on its own or at the start of a meal, as well as the complexity and depth to handle any number of richer foods.”  LIMITED!!
